STANDARD TEST CHART
REFLECTANCE
The Standard Test Chart YE101 serves for general (visual) appraisal of TV cameras.
Transmission resp. reflectance of the two gray scales is 75, 50 and 25% with reference to the white
area of the picture = 100 %. This corresponds to density values of 0.13, 0.30 and 0.60 with reference
to the white area of the picture D=0. The gray background has a transmission resp. reflectance of 18%
(density D=0.75) and lies under a 23/17 grid.
The test chart is primary used for orientating assessment of the transmission characteristics of an
electronic camera. The circular figures and the grid render possible a rough appraisal of the geometry.
The wedge-shaped line rasters are used for visual appraisal of the resolution limit. These resolution
wedges end at 8 MHz at their narrow side. Horizontal and vertical resolution wedges are also positioned
in circles in the four corners of the test chart. Scaling MHz is shown at the outer circular lines (2, 4, 6
and 8 MHz). In addition, cross-color interferences as well as the effects of notch filters and comb filters
can be observed.
Rough appraisal of the half-tone rendition is possible with the aid of the gray scales.
